We hope you have had a lovely Easter break and we hope you have a great start to the next half term. We are looking forward to a wonderful term, which promises to be exciting and eventful. We have a very busy term planned for the year 1/2 children and hopefully they can continue to embrace the challenges of KS1.
Our literacy tree units will focus on fairytales, we will be reading three different versions of ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ and an adaption of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We will also have daily phonics and guided reading sessions and listen to a range of fantastic stories in class. Our maths work will focus heavily on multiplication and division this term as the children need to have an understanding when explaining their reasoning and problem solving.
Our science unit this half term is Plants and we will also be continuing our physics unit of seasonal changes.
After the May half term our literacy tree stories for Summer two are focusing on the environment. We will be reading ‘The journey home’ and ‘The house held up by trees’. Our science unit will continue with ‘Living things and their habitats.
Every child will have access to ‘Reading Eggs’ which is an online reading program that has been used across school in order to improve children’s reading skills, vocabulary and comprehension. Children will be assigned tasks on reading eggs to complete in school and at home if they have access. Please support your child as much as possible at home to access this wonderful resource. Reading books will be sent home weekly and these will be linked to their phonics group.
If you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to contact me via classdojo or telephone school. Obviously during the school day, it is very difficult to respond to queries, but between 3.30pm-5.30pm I will try my best.
Thank you for your support
